Danny Kortchmar

Night Train Music Club Conductor

I am what is commonly referred to as a “journeyman” musician, which essentially means I will do whatever I can to avoid having a real job.

I am a guitarist/composer/vocalist /songwriter/producer and engineer.

Over the years I have had the great pleasure to work with so many great session musicians and artists, and our love of playing music together is a unifying bond. After touring for 10 years with the band LITTLE BLUE, I relocated from NYC to Los Angeles. I found that most of the fabulous musicians here were in great demand, too busy to form a band, but missing the camaraderie and joy of jamming together like we all did in garages when we were young. So I created NIGHT TRAIN MUSIC CLUB, which is a band, but has rotating chairs to accommodate touring and session schedules. What started as a friendly jam has taken on a life of it’s own, and we have been asked to play at festivals, concert venues and private events. The format changes in accordance with the needs of the situation. NTMC can be a small acoustic trio, or a full on 11 piece band featuring a horn section. We typically will feature a few guest artists, again depending on the criteria, and these have included DAVID CROSBY, JIMMY MESSINA, ALBERT LEE, VONDA SHEPARD and many others.

I am very pleased to welcome DANNY KORTCHMAR as a key player in the Night Train Music Club collaboration

Danny (Kootch) Kortchmar is a guitarist, session musician, producer and songwriter. Kortchmar's work with singer-songwriters such as Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, David Crosby, Carole King, Graham Nash, and Carly Simon helped define the signature sound of the singer-songwriter era of the 1970s. Jackson Browne and Don Henley have recorded many songs written or co-written by Kortchmar, and Kortchmar was Henley's songwriting and producing partner in the 1980s on Henley’s hit solo records. In the 1970s he made three albums with legendary session players Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, and Craig Doerge, as The Section. Known for his stellar session work and production, Danny has a long list of co-written hit songs, including: Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby,”  Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” & “All She Wants To Do Is Dance,” James Taylor’s  “Honey Don’t Leave LA” & “Machine Gun Kelly”, and many more with artists including The Eagles, Hall & Oates and Toto.
